Adoptable Dogs
Teagan
Get to know me!
Age: 3.5 months
Weight: 12lbs
Gender: Female
Cool with: All dogs, people, adventures, WATER!
Not cool with: Boring people
Intake: 12/20/2026
My story: Teagan was surrenderd to us at only 4 weeks old by a homeless woman in Tucson. She was unvaccinated and lived in a park where parvo ran rampant, she didn’t have a shot…
Now at 15 weeks old, Teagan is the life of the party! She’s never met a stranger, she runs up to everyone like she’s know them for years. She does great with dogs and reads the room.
Teagan is exceptionally clever. While we don’t know her exact breed make up, I think it’s safe to say she’s got some Aussie/Heeler in her!
Her ideal home would be someone active, ready to mesh her into their life. Someone with experience with the breed is preferred. She is not a good fit for a passive “dog mom” type owner. She will require someone that is willing to implement boundaries despite her ridiculously cute face.
That being said, she’s ingenious and learns very quickly. She’s a very easy puppy.

Tucker
Get to know me!
Age: ~1yr
Weight: 45lbs
Gender: Male
Cool with: All dogs, people, adventures, cuddling
Not cool with: Nothing!
Intake: 02/14/2026
My story: Tucker was found by an animal control officer in a tree in Tucson after being hit by a car. He spent the first few weeks of recovery in the shelter being carried around by staff. He refused to walk😫 They thought his pelvis was shattered. Turns out he was just nervous and taking advantage of the free rides!
We pulled him on valentines day and he LEPT into our laps. He was a brand new boy! He acclimated immediately into our young dog pack. Tucker is very social and respectful with other dogs and people. He has never met a stranger. We have yet top have him around cats, but can’t imagine that to be a problem for him because of his passive nature.
Tucker would love to be an adventure dog! He does great on leash and walks around like everyday is a party. Ball and tug are favorite past times for him.
He has such a special and wonderful energy✨
If you are interested in learning more about Tucker or meeting him, please fill out an application for him at handoverrover.org!
Jolene
Get to know me!
Age: 8 months
Weight: 30lbs
Gender: Female
Cool with: All dogs, people, cats, water sports, adventures
Not cool with: Homebodies
Intake: 05/08/2025
My story: At just 8 weeks old, Jolene and her two siblings were found in a dumpster. Thrown away like trash. AZ Humane reached out to see if we had space. We don't usually take puppies-but Jolene was different.
She has hydrocephalus—a buildup of fluid on the brain that gives the skull a dome-shaped appearance. She weighed just 2.6 lbs when we got her. Thankfully, Jolene's case is mild.
Our neurologist confirmed she has no neurological symptoms, and said how she presents at 6 months will likely be how she stays long-term. She's currently 7 months old and bouncing around like any healthy puppy.
If anything changes later, we'll step in to cover the cost of an MRI-even post-adoption. That's in writing.
Jolene is adoptable because she has a clean bill of health, a plan, and a backup plan. Always.
The only thing unusual about her now? Her size.
She's teeny-just under 30 lbs at 8 months-and looks like a mini pony galloping around.
She's a personal favorite. She's spunky, smart and calculating. She would make the best tiny adventure partner. She makes eye contact that'll stop you in your tracks, and she lives for the water!
Jolene is an absolute dime piece.

Utah
Get to know me!
Age: 4 yrs
Weight: 50lbs
Gender: Male
Breed: 100% staffy
Cool with: Dogs, cats, people, off-leash hikes, couch time
Not cool with: Yelling, fighting, young kids, chaos
Intake: 06/03/2025
My story: Utah came from the streets of Phoenix, where he endured what appeared to be injuries from an attack from another dog.
With a rough start, he held no grudges! Utah is a friend to all! He does great with dogs, and is the first to back away if another dog is being too intense. He’s got a tough looking exterior, but is a softy at heart.
Utah was built for adventures! He’s off leash trained, and knows all basic obedience. He’s a compact little guy that is an easy fit for a weekend adventure, or a spot next to you on the couch for movie night!
He is a sensitive little boy with a deep soul. Utahs perfect home would be a family that is active and outgoing. Yelling and loud voices really make him nervous. While he’s an active guy, someone with calm energy is going to be his best fit.

Age: ~7 years
Weight: 17lbs
Gender: Female
Cool with: Dogs, cats, people, toys, TOYS
Not cool with: No toys, people who cant take a joke
Intake: 10/31/2025
My story: Aunt Lana is one of two dogs that were surrendered to our organization when their owner struck hard times.
She does great with dogs, cats and people. Lady Lana is HEAVILY TOY MOTIVATED!
She’s currently learning how to play tug, and how to turn “off”. If A GOOD TIME is what you’re looking for, Lady Lana is here for it! Lana is 7 years young but acts about 2. She does great on a leash and is unbothered by other dogs or people.
GENE
Get to know me!
Age: ~8yrs
Weight: 15 lbs
Gender: Male
Cool with: calm dogs, bed time, sleeping like a person
Not cool with: cats, rowdy dogs, being picked up quickly
Intake: 2/27/2024
My story: His intestines were hanging out when we found him! Little Gene was found as a street dog in Phoenix. When we picked him up we noticed that he was definitely an older dog, but we didn't notice the life threatening condition he was in…
Gene had a horrific perianal hernia. His bladder, colon, and lower intestines were pushed through his pelvic floor muscles. After the intensive surgery, he was a brand new dog!! Despite being a senior, he can still move quick when he wants to, or if theres a snack involved!
Now, Gene is looking for his forever home!! He equally loves walks and hanging out on the couch with his family.
His favorite time of day is bed time. He loves cuddling up and watching tv after bopping around the house all day. He's great with other dogs and people. Though he would not be a fit for a family with cats.
Gene is fully vetted, got a dental in our care, and is ready to go!
He's our easiest little senior🥹
Jerry
Get to know me!
Age: 3 yrs
Weight: 42lbs
Gender: male
Cool with: dogs, people, off leash hikes, swimming at the lake
Not cool with: people with no sense of humor, cats
Intake: 10/13/2023
My story: Jerry was found at 7 months old, dragging his body thru a field in Texas where he had been dumped. X rays showed a small bullet lodged in his spine. A good Sam took him in, and for the next week, figured out how to get him to a “special needs rescue” here in Arizona.
Unfortunately, the special needs rescue, was a fraud. She hoarded Jerry and 54 other dogs in a tiny house, leaving them locked in kennels with no meds, no water, no wheel chairs…
The Chandler55 case was horrific. When the dogs were finally released back to their original rescues, Jerry found himself needing a lifeline, and we couldn’t say yes fast enough!
Jerry has been with us for 2 years, learning all the ins and outs of what the good life looks and feels like! As the founder of the organization I made it my personal mission to give Jerry a 2 year window with us before we made him available for adoption, as I’ve been his personal physical therapist and I wanted to see if we could get him walking again.
Jerry has gotten stronger since he’s been with us, and his back legs will take steps, and he can do a small amount of what’s called “spinal walking” - however he will always need his wheel chair for full mobility.
If you could see the smile on his face when he does spin outs on our property, you wouldn’t worry about if he ever walked again. He’s so damn happy every moment of every day!
Jerry can poop on his own, but needs his bladder expressed 3-4 times a day. When we express his bladder, we also take advantage of “pooping him” so he stays on schedule and it reduces the chance of any poop accidents in the house. This is a very simple technique that takes about 1 minute, and makes everyone’s life so much better!
Jerry is great with other dogs, but slow to warm up to people. He reads energy very closely, and isn’t an immediate fan of everyone. But if he loves you, you’re his favorite for life- everyone else, he’ll get there.
He’s off leash trained and LOVES to go on adventure hikes!!! He’s got a good amount of prey drive and would do best in a home with no cats.
Jerry is great with other dogs, cautious with new people, and loyal for life once he trusts you. H! Off-leash trained, adventure-ready, and best in a cat-free home.
Before applying, things to consider:
Can you express his bladder 4x a day?
Learn and use the quick poop technique?
Get him in/out of his wheelchair for outdoor time?
Wrap his feet every few days to prevent drag wounds?
Add his 3 liquid supplements to his food daily for UTI prevention?
If yes — Jerry might be your guy!!

Scarlett
My story: 12 year old Scarlett was going to be euthanized because her owners girlfriend said she reminded her of his ex wife…
Scarlett is the most adoptable little old lady EVER!!! Now at 13 and about 65lbs, she is looking for someplace to retire. She is currently living with our rescue, but due to the amount of dogs we have, she does not get the time to lounge in the couch like she deserves.
She is everyone's best friend. This girl has never met a stranger! She approaches everyone like she’s known them her entire life. She does great with male dogs on the larger side, 40+lbs!
All she wants to do is lounge around, have a snack, and toss a stuffy around, have another snack, and nap again!
Gertie
Get to know me!
Age: ~11 yrs
Weight: 14lbs
Gender: Female
Cool with: calm dogs, cats, snacks, slings + backpacks
Not cool with:
Intake: 05/27/2025
My story: Gertie came to us from the Carson shelter where she found herself as a “stray”.
She’s a darling senior gal(around 11 years old), with quite a bit of pep in her step! Gertie does well with other dogs both big and small, but she wouldn’t mind being someone’s one and only adventure pal!
When Gertie came in, we found out she had a heart murmur and just three painful, rotting teeth left. Unfortunately the dental specialist had to remove them all, they were in terrible shape. But that hasn’t slowed her down one bit. She’s on her daily meds for her heart, feeling amazing, and living her best life on her soft-food diet!!
Gertie also does well with the resident cats:)
Gertie’s perfect home would have someone that is retired or primarily works from home. Possibly with 1 or 2 other slower dogs, but also, no dogs would be a fit. She would get to sleep with her owner at night, and go for backpack/sling rides during the cooler weather!! Gertie would love to be a homebody with her person, and still go on the occasional weekend adventure to the beach, or hiking in the mountains!
